Mr. Maller is the leader of the firm's New York Real Estate practice group and its firm-wide Real Estate Private Equity and Alternative Investments Teams (the latter of which covers primarily private equity, hedge funds, real estate and infrastructure investments).

Mr. Maller has broad legal and business experience in the area of real estate and real estate private equity, with a particular emphasis on investment and finance. He has represented a wide range of owners, operators, users, investment managers and advisors, investors, and lenders, both domestically and internationally.

Mr. Maller regularly speaks about investment and finance issues before institutional forums and conferences, including the National Association of State Treasurers and Harvard's Center for Business and Government. He is regularly interviewed about those issues by major trade publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Institutional Investor, and The Deal. He has also authored numerous articles about them in respected legal publications, such as the Real Estate Law Journal, for which he was the Contributing Editor for many years.

Mr. Maller was a member of the real estate investment board of New York State Common Retirement Fund (the nation's third largest defined benefits pension plan with nearly $160 billion in assets and almost a $10 billion target allocation to real estate and real estate private equity). He has served in that capacity for three years under two successive New York State Comptrollers. He was the Co-Chair of its Policy and Process Committee and the Chair of its Process Subcommittee, which reported to the New York State Comptroller on strategic planning, manager selection and best practices functions.

Mr. Maller also served for almost four years on the California State Controller's Advisory Council on Investments, which advised the California Controller in his capacity as a member of the Boards of CalPERS and CalSTRS (the nation's largest and second largest defined benefits pension plans, respectively), on various investment-related issues.

Mr. Maller is Founder of the Alternative Investments Forum (AIF), which is a thought leadership forum or “think tank” that promotes sound investment in alternative asset classes by institutional investors. All of AIF's members are among the world's preeminent investment fund managers.

Mr. Maller was listed in the Super Lawyers publication in 2007 and 2008 as a New York Super Lawyer in Real Estate and ranked by Chambers Global as one of the world’s foremost Private Equity-Investment Funds lawyers.
