Lenovo – Creating a Multibillion-Dollar International Partnership

Lenovo, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of personal computers and an undeniably major player in the information technology industry, still had room to grow, particularly in the booming market for x86 computer servers and even in China, one of the company’s home countries. Given its size, its reach, and the complexity of its industry, any significant deal the company pursued was going to be complicated. A multidisciplinary team at Pillsbury helped Lenovo arrange a broad new partnership with Boston-based EMC, the world’s largest maker of data storage computers. The deal enhanced Lenovo’s position in the growing market for networked computer servers and storage solutions. Following the deal with EMC, Lenovo’s chairman and CEO said it was “another solid step in our journey to build on our foundation in PCs and become a leader in the new PC-plus era.”
