Sustainability
Pillsbury has a deep sense of responsibility to environmental stewardship. In early 2008 we launched a firmwide Sustainability initiative, an effort that leverages the progress already made by our local offices toward greener business practices. An Executive Partner for Sustainability and the Director of Corporate Social Responsibility energize and organize this commitment to keeping the firm's global footprint green.
Some of our core targets and accomplishments include:
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
To make it easier to drive less, we launched the legal industry's most aggressive green commuter program. The firm offers telework options, commuter checks, public transit subsidies and memberships in Zipcar, a car-sharing service. We also participate in Ridespring.com, a web portal where attorneys and staff can find carpool partners and track their use of public transit and other eco-conscious commuting options. In our New York office, we have contracted with a hybrid limo service. Our program has been awarded a Green Business Award by the Washington Business Journal and a Diamond Award by San Diego Association of Governments for "ongoing commitment" to traffic reduction.
Increasing energy efficiency
Each office has an Energy Management Plan to track consumption and become more efficient. IT departments have dramatically reduced their servers' energy appetite.
Reducing waste, consuming less and recycling
A move to electronic-only records and communications and greater use of double-sided printing cuts down on paper use.
Purchasing goods and services with lighter environmental impact
Many of our offices have "green" kitchens and use sustainable and recycled materials—from carpeting to lighting. The design approach we took in our Houston office garnered recognition for sustainability and energy efficiency from a chapter of the American Society for Interior Designers. Our Sacramento office is also in a LEED-certified building.
