Senior Associate

Ellen Cohen is a senior associate in the law firm's Litigation practice and is located in the Los Angeles office. Her practice focuses on employment litigation and counseling as well as complex commercial litigation. She has significant experience defending corporate employers in federal and state courts as well as before administrative agencies. Recent representative matters that Ms. Cohen has worked on include:

  • Investigating and responding to DFEH and EEOC charges alleging retaliation and discrimination, resulting in multiple case closures
  • Defending employers against wage and hour claims, appearing before the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement and obtaining dismissal of all charges
  • Drafting employee handbooks, separation agreements, confidentiality agreements, telecommuting policies and background check policies
  • Counseling corporate client as it transitioned workforce from independent contractor to employee status
  • Preparing and delivering presentations on hot topics in employment law, including social media policies and recently-decided cases of interest
  • Providing statutorily-required anti-harassment training to diverse audiences
  • Second-chairing a federal court trial, successfully defending a Fortune 100 client against ADA and tort claims
  • Second-chairing $10 million commercial arbitration

In addition, Ms. Cohen assists clients in the litigation of contract disputes, partnership and corporate disputes, and real property matters. While attending law school, Ms. Cohen worked for three years as a law clerk at the Board on Professional Responsibility for the District of Columbia. Prior to law school, Ms. Cohen worked for eight years in higher education administration and student services.
