Anthony Cavanaugh, a trial lawyer with extensive experience in complex real estate, construction and hospitality litigation, has joined Pillsbury’s growing litigation practice in Washington, DC. He joins from Miles & Stockbridge, where he was a principal.

Cavanaugh advises owners, management companies, franchisors, tenants, lenders and vendors in the real estate and hospitality industries in complex litigation. These include commercial landlord-tenant disputes, management agreement disputes and disputes in connection with the purchase and sale of real estate and hospitality assets. He was named a Rising Star in Business Litigation by Washington, DC Super Lawyers last year, and was later named to the 2021 Irish Legal 100 by The Irish Times.

Cavanaugh’s arrival further advances the firm’s Real Estate dispute capabilities, which have long been a core strength of the firm. Most recently, the group experienced a significant boost with the May 2021 addition of William Bosch, the former leader of Arnold & Porter’s Real Estate Litigation practice and co-head of its Hospitality group.

“I’m thrilled to have Anthony on our team,” Bosch noted. “I’ve known and worked with him for well over a decade, including at my prior firm, and look forward to collaborating with Anthony and our colleagues on behalf of our commercial real estate and hospitality clients.”

Cavanaugh continues an impressive run of notable litigation hires made by the firm since the start of 2021. In the past 12 months, the firm has also added Willie Wood (Houston), a renowned oil and gas trial lawyer with an emphasis on international arbitration and Latin America; Ron Cheng (Los Angeles), a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and DOJ Resident Advisor in the U.S. Embassy in Beijing; Richard Donoghue (New York), who previously served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York and Acting Deputy Attorney General; noted appellate lawyer Daniel Bromberg (San Francisco), the former Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary to California Governor Gavin Newsom; former federal prosecutor Kimberly Jaimez (Los Angeles); oil and gas litigators Tony Guerino and Liz Klingensmith (Houston); international arbitration practitioner Derek Soller (New York); complex commercial litigator and retired Judge James Catterson (New York); and former Associate Deputy Attorney General Patrick Hovakimian (DC).

Pillsbury’s award-winning team of more than 200 litigators works with clients around the world to help them successfully resolve disputes, in trial and out of court, at home and in jurisdictions around the globe. The firm has garnered dozens of top-tier recognitions as a result of its exceptional litigation prowess, and was most recently recognized as one of the 12 most feared law firms to come up against in litigation by BTI Consulting Group.
