Despite the energy challenges countries and states have faced over the past several decades, there are still policy and regulatory barriers hampering the buildout of nuclear energy. However, support for the industry is growing.

Pillsbury Global Energy Industry Leader Elina Teplinsky recently participated in an interview with JUICE for a five-part docuseries that explores the coal-to-nuclear transition, the positive effects that transition can have on countries and their economies, and the tools needed to decarbonize the economy in an equitable manner.

While there has been a history of governments pushing back on nuclear energy, Teplinsky said that “all of these countries are changing their minds, and, in part, they are changing their minds now because of energy security issues. It’s really at the forefront.”

She added, “The policymakers are finally getting it, but the people themselves need to have their electricity and their heat for the winter, and companies need to have all of those energy sources, as well.”
