This program will explain the newly issued final trademark rules, effective December 18, 2021, in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The program will be important for both United States and international trademark prosecution and litigation lawyers (both in-house and outside counsel) and also corporate trademark development and clearance personnel. 

Topics to be addressed include:

  • The new rules, how they work, and applicable deadlines (15 minutes)
  • Corresponding sections of the Modernization Act, with pertinent legislative and administrative histories (15 minutes)
  • The interaction between the new U.S. rules and international trademark protection and practice (10 minutes)
  • Potential adversarial ramifications in the TTAB, U.S. courts, and foreign tribunals (20 minutes)
