San Diego — Pillsbury today welcomed Steven Moore, an accomplished patent litigator with a client base of leading companies in the electronics and wireless communications space. He joins the firm from Goodwin Proctor as a partner in the San Diego Intellectual Property practice and anticipates bringing a seasoned team of three IP litigation attorneys.

A Ph.D. in electrical engineering and a registered patent attorney, Dr. Moore has particular expertise in handset, software and telecom technologies and a deep level understanding of software code. He manages the litigation portfolios and technology strategy for several well-known companies.

“Steve and his team will be a tremendous asset as we continue to strengthen our litigation capabilities to meet clients’ needs,” said Pillsbury's Chair James Rishwain, Jr. “Steve has built an impressive practice in a relatively short period of time. His breadth of experience and our existing IP litigation talent in the San Diego market make for a great strategic fit.”

Prior to his legal career, Dr. Moore served as the director of intellectual property and regulatory affairs for a technology company in San Diego. He has represented clients in various proceedings before the Federal Communications Commission and served as a technical advisor and member of the U.S. Delegation to the International Telecommunications Union. Dr. Moore also served on the U.S. State Department's International Telecommunications Advisory Committee, Standardizations Sector (ITACT), as an industry expert.

Jack Barufka, firmwide leader of Pillsbury’s Intellectual Property practice, noted, “Steve’s unique experiences and capabilities as an IP litigator are a rare find in San Diego. His broad legal and technical background gives him perspective across a range of complex matters to offer high-level, strategic IP counseling advice, as well as technical expertise.”

“Pillsbury’s strong national litigation practice and its patent litigation capabilities in San Diego make it an attractive base for me to grow my practice and provide my clients the support they need,” Dr. Moore added.

Dr. Moore received his J.D. from California Western School of Law in 2003 and his Ph.D. from University of North Carolina Charlotte in 2001. He is an inventor on eleven U.S.-issued patents pertaining to advanced telecommunications. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy and served on active duty for nine years.
