Pillsbury received enhanced coverage in the World Trademark Review 1000 section for 2021, with strong rankings on the prosecution, strategy, litigation and enforcement tables.

Patrick Jennings received a national individual ranking for prosecution and strategy in the DC-metro area and Edward Cavazos received a national individual ranking as a “recommended expert” in Texas. In addition to Jennings and Cavazos, Patricia Cotton, Ken Keller, Vijay Toke and Carolyn Toto were recognized as leading practitioners in the field.

Nationally ranked, the review described DC-based IP partner Patrick Jennings as “fair, fast and responsive.” According to the review, Jennings is “well connected internationally and a global portfolio manager par excellence for the likes of UBS.” The 2021 review describes Austin-based IP managing partner Edward Cavazos as one of the best transactional IP experts in Texas. “The former general counsel is a savvy negotiator of all kinds of IP and technology-driven deals, his table tactics informed by extensive IP litigation experience,” the review stated.

San Francisco-based Intellectual Property partners Ken Keller and Vijay Toke were both singled out in the review. Keller is described as a “top-drawer trial lawyer with a great breadth of insightful IP knowledge.” According to the review, “Toke is a percipient litigator who thinks several steps ahead to map out the most viable paths towards successful outcomes, which he has a fine record of achieving.” Together, they recently secured a $5 million consent judgment for Hyundai Motor Company in a parallel import trademark infringement action against Direct Technologies, the review noted.

Meanwhile, focused on prosecution and enforcement, are Carolyn Toto and Patricia Cotton, who both receive special plaudits, according to the review. Los Angeles partner and internet and social media team co-head Carolyn Toto was described as a “thorough lawyer” who also provides clear and concise counsel. “Carolyn makes timely and specific recommendations that inspire confidence,” the review stated. Special counsel Patricia Cotton was described as “highly responsive, attentive and diligent, a wonderful person all round.” According to the 2021 review, “she really understands business.”
