Projects partner and Energy Transition practice group co-leader Rob James recently authored an article exploring the origins of the Security Council veto from the precedent treaties and drafts through the United Nations Charter, which was adopted at the San Francisco Conference in 1945.

The article, which was featured in the Journal of National Security Law & Policy, follows the timeline of the United Nations Security Council, how the veto system came to be, how the Security Council system influenced other international institutions, and how both clashes and confluences of interests drove the “evitable compromise in San Francisco.”
