Our information systems are highly vulnerable and increasingly subject to attack. The Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Homeland Security have recently noted that the risks associated with cybersecurity have increased dramatically as a result of more frequent and severe intrusions. Across business and the government, there is heightened awareness of the vulnerability of information systems, communication networks and physical plants and a recognition of the additional obligations to reduce the exposure and mitigate the effects of cyberattacks.
