The FCC’s Proposed Broadband Privacy Requirements: Debating the Pros and Cons
Recently, the FCC issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking considering whether to apply Communications Act privacy requirements to providers of broadband Internet access service. While many broadband providers have expressed opposition to the proposed rules, public interest groups have registered their support.

Broadband Stimulus Funding: Opportunities, Compliance, and Regulatory Issues
With the application window for projects seeking the final round of federal broadband stimulus closing on March 15, applicants are refining their proposals to ensure key technology, finance and compliance criteria are addressed. Government agencies are preparing to review broadband Internet projects vying for $4.8 billion in new federal stimulus funds under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act ("Recovery Act"), which includes two separate funding programs: the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP), which is generally focused on expanding broadband through middle mile projects, rather than to end users, and the the complementary Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP), which is focused more on providing last mile connectivity in rural areas in particular.
