Mr. Fong leads Pillsbury’s 50-lawyer litigation team in San Francisco and is co-leader of the firm’s Appellate practice team, ranked by Chambers USA as one of the nation’s leading appellate practices. He was identified as a “stand out name” by Chambers USA in its 2008 ranking of national appellate practices.
Mr. Fong has appeared in more than 80 published decisions, including arguments in six cases before the California Supreme Court (prevailing in five of the six cases). Mr. Fong’s arguments have helped shape the law in numerous fields – establishing important precedent in the fields of environmental law and banking, for example. He has authored briefs in leading cases before numerous Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court, including a landmark administrative law case, Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council. Mr. Fong was elected to the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers in 1991 and currently serves as one of its vice presidents.
Mr. Fong chairs the firm’s Diversity Committee and has been a leader in promoting diversity in the legal profession for more than 25 years. Mr. Fong was the honoree at the 2006 annual dinner of the Asian Law Caucus, which honored him for his leadership in promoting diversity. In 2008, he received a Trailblazer Award from the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association at its 20th annual convention.
