Pillsbury's Energy practice is nationally ranked by 2009 Chambers USA, a leading independent guide that interviews clients to compile its rankings.

Chambers notes, "Pillsbury is the only law firm to rank nationally in three key energy sectors.  Pillsbury's energy practice combines a first-class nuclear energy practice with outstanding LNG, renewables and oil and gas practices to form an impressive national presence on the energy market."

Pillsbury’s combination of geographic reach, legal and regulatory depth, and energy sector-specific experience is unmatched among the world’s leading law firms. Our 125-member Energy industry team includes top-ranked lawyers covering capital markets, project development, finance, litigation and regulation from offices in North America, Europe and Asia. The team’s experience spans the entire fuel spectrum, from oil and gas, electricity and nuclear to renewables and clean technology.

Our clients benefit from the comprehensive insight of attorneys who have worked on energy matters throughout careers that include in-house and public sector experience. Many have advised on benchmark-setting transactions and precedent-setting litigation in the energy industry.

Representative Matters/Experience

Oil & Gas
Pillsbury advised Chevron on corporate, regulatory, trade and public policy aspects of its $18 billion acquisition of Unocal—a deal Fortune magazine called “the most politicized takeover battle in U.S. business history.”

LNG
We handle cutting-edge LNG project development and financing, including counseling Qatar Petroleum and its affiliates on their North American LNG activities and UK LNG receiving terminal, and representing a sponsor in the acquisition of its interest in the Peru LNG Project and its groundbreaking financing.

Global Nuclear Renaissance
Pillsbury launched the nation’s first nuclear energy practice. Today, we have unparalleled experience (both in number of representations and a 100% success rate) in new plant licensing based on our extensive work during the first wave of nuclear licensing. Our team is engaged in every facet of new plant siting, licensing, financing and structuring ownership interests.

Power Generation and Transmission
Our Energy & Infrastructure Projects team has been involved in the development and/or financing of hundreds of generating plant and electricity transmission projects worldwide.

Renewables, Clean Technology and Climate Change
Over the past three years we have advised on more than 85 wind, solar, biomass, geothermal and other renewable energy source projects. Our cleantech and climate change clients include emerging technology and trading companies, investor funds, trade associations, and the sponsors and financiers of the new generation of carbon capture and sequestration development.

Access to Capital Markets
Since 2007, we have handled more than 40 public and other underwritten energy matters valued at approximately $10 billion.

Cross-border Reach
Pillsbury has recently advised on projects encompassing operations or investments in Canada, various Gulf States, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Pakistan, Russia and other locations in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.
