Mr. Shaikh represents U.S. and foreign sponsors, lenders, government agencies, contractors and other participants in the development, financing, acquisition, sale, or restructuring of energy and infrastructure projects. He has advised on projects in the oil and gas, power, petrochemical, steel, paper, telecom, sports arena, hotel, real estate and other industries in the U.S., and over 25 countries in Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Europe. These projects have often involved foreign governments, mulitlaterals and Export Credit Agencies. Mr. Shaikh has led pioneering projects, such as the World Bank's first Prototype Carbon Fund investment implementing the Kyoto Protocol, preparing the model contract for future emissions credits generating projects. He also has worked with other multilateral institutions.

Mr. Shaikh has served as lead counsel to sponsors such as Duke Energy, PSE&G and Mitsui in the development, construction and financing of projects. These projects have varied in size (from US$50 million to US$4 billion), and employed a broad range of technologies. He recently served as counsel to a Middle East government in the establishment of a new IPP industry, preparing the framework and model agreements for multiple projects. He has represented contractors in large-scale EPC contracts, including a US$1 billion+ project for a coal-fired facility selected as 2006 Power Project of the Year. Mr. Shaikh has also represented lenders in several project financings and restructurings.

He is experienced in banking, securities, derivatives, and general corporate matters. Mr. Shaikh serves as co-leader of the firm’s South Asia practice team, and the firm’s Iraq Reconstruction team. He has substantial on-the-ground experience in several parts of Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. He has published and presented extensively on international transactions and foreign affairs topics.

Mr. Shaikh was formerly an investment banking Associate in the Derivative Products Group of Bankers Trust, and an Analyst in the Fixed Income Division of Goldman Sachs.
