INTERNATIONAL PARTNER RON BORNSTEIN RELOCATES TO PILLSBURY’S LONDON OFFICELondon—Pillsbury’s Ronald E. Bornstein, a senior corporate, securities and finance partner based in San Francisco, has relocated to the London office as part of the Firm’s ongoing international growth strategy.
“At Pillsbury, our revenues are increasingly derived from outside the United States just as our clients’ revenues are,” says Pillsbury Firm Chair Jim Rishwain. “This trend will continue as our clients’ global activities grow. We intend to be where our clients are and need us to be. Ron Bornstein is a longstanding partner of Pillsbury with tremendous international experience and success. He is the ideal partner to help build on our expanding London capabilities, in the number of industries we serve and as a gateway to the rest of Europe and the Middle East. As the former head of our Corporate, Securities and Finance practice, Ron is well known to his colleagues around the firm and will be a great bridge between London and our offices around the world.”
Over the course of his distinguished career, Bornstein has worked on hundreds of international matters, including financings, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, contractual negotiations and dispute resolutions. Among those in Europe have been financings in most of the major Western European countries, such as financings to develop energy resources in both the UK and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea and the transformational French nuclear energy, telecommunications and autoroute programs. On the M&A and investment side, he has represented such European clients as Allied Domecq, BNP Paribas, Infogrames/Atari and Vodafone, to name but a few.
Fluent in French, Bornstein practiced in Paris for several years before joining Pillsbury and was admitted as a Conseil Juridique in France. He has represented numerous French and Belgian companies. He also was a Ford Fellow at the Academy of International Law at The Hague and a Visiting Fulbright Professor at the University of Dakar.
A member of the International Law Advisory Committee of the Practicing Law Institute, Bornstein currently serves on the Boards of the World Affairs Council of Northern California and the Pacific Pension Institute, and is past Chair of the International Law Section of the State Bar of California. Admitted to practice in both New York and California, Bornstein holds degrees from University of Pennsylvania’s Law School and Wharton School of Business.
“I’m delighted to be living in Europe again, and welcome the opportunity to build on recent successes in our London office, including the $20 billion deal we negotiated for Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation to develop the UAE’s first Peaceful Nuclear Power Program, as well as our ongoing counsel on the South Hook LNG Terminal in Wales,” said Bornstein. “I will, of course, also actively continue my relationships with clients in the U.S."
Pillsbury first established a London office in 1971, long before many other U.S. firms arrived in the UK. Well-known in the UK and continental Europe for its top-ranked global sourcing capabilities, in the past two years, Pillsbury has considerably expanded its London office capabilities, with an emphasis on energy and infrastructure; corporate, financial services and capital markets; IP and data protection; and technology, including outsourcing and telecommunications. London capabilities also include labour and employment, tax, marketing and advertising law, and dispute resolution. Today, approximately 20 attorneys, including six partners, practice in Pillsbury’s London office, advising on transactions spanning the EMEA region and other parts of the world.
