Senior Director of Talent Development Jim Lovelace has firmwide responsibility for learning and performance management initiatives for Pillsbury’s attorneys, as well as educational opportunities provided to the firm’s clients.

Jim and his Talent Development colleagues work closely with Pillsbury’s practice leaders, as well as with the Attorney Development Committee, the Diversity & Inclusion team and the Marketing team, among others. Jim, a certified coach, launched Pillsbury’s confidential career coaching program, which is now led by a full-time director of attorney coaching. In May 2020, the Practising Law Institute, as part of its PD Insider series, interviewed Jim about Pillsbury’s career coaching program.

Jim began his legal career as a litigator with a Washington, DC, law firm. He later became a career counselor and the associate director for career development at the George Washington University Law School, where he led training programs and counseled students and alumni on their career options. Jim is active in legal professional development thought leadership, having served on the board and as chair of the Professional Development Consortium and as longtime faculty co-leader of NALP’s Foundational Coaching skills series.

  • Completed the Co-Active Training Institute Leadership Program (2018 – 2019).
  • Served as chair of Professional Development Consortium, an organization of legal professional development leaders in the U.S., Canada and the UK (2013 – 2015).
  • Served as leader of the Washington, DC, Legal Professional Development Group (2009 – 2011).
