Laura K. Latham
|
Ms. Latham (formerly Ms. Licht) is an advisor to and advocate for employers in a variety of employment matters including wage-hour, wrongful termination, discrimination and harassment, breach of contract, trade secret, Labor Code violations and employment-related investigations.
For over a decade, Ms. Latham has represented employers in complex wage-hour matters. She has handled the defense of wage-hour class actions involving the administrative, executive and professional exemptions to the overtime laws. She has also handled cases involving the salaried basis test, and cases involving technical violations of the California Labor Code, including cases involving alleged vacation forfeiture and failure to provide meal periods and rest breaks. In addition, Ms. Latham assists companies in exemption audits, and provides strategic, collaborative advice to clients already in the midst of defending high-stakes wage-hour litigation.
While Ms. Latham represents businesses of all types and sizes, she also has the unique experience of assisting non-profit religious corporations in the employment arena. Whether for advice, counseling, investigations, agency claims or litigation defense, Ms. Latham has experience concerning the statutory exemptions available to church employers and has successfully defended agency claims and litigation on these grounds.
Ms. Latham is a frequent lecturer on a variety of employment law topics, including prevention of wage-hour claims, defense of employment litigation, and prevention of workplace harassment and discrimination claims.
