A California court Monday ruled that Hartford Casualty Insurance Co. can seek to recover fees charged by law firm Squire Patton Boggs LLP when it served as Cumis counsel for a policyholder in a 2006 lawsuit. According to Law360, the decision is a warning to lawyers who serve as Cumis counsel, since Squire actually drafted a court order allowing Hartford to seek reimbursement of fees paid to the policyholder’s counsel in the underlying lawsuit.
