NPR reports that on Yahoo's uncertain fate as Chinese company Alibaba considers a takeover. One question, for example, is the Chinese government's practice of monitoring its citizens. "That raises not only just privacy concerns, but also law enforcement concerns and national security issues," says Christopher Wall, international trade partner at Pillsbury and the former Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration.

Wall, who has worked on foreign ownership deals, adds that one key question is how much the Chinese government could control Alibaba, or whether it is really an independent company. These are big hurdles for any prospective deal, but still ones that could be cleared, he says.
