Church Taxes in Court's Hands

The court hearing about whether the San Francisco Archdiocese owes the city and county more than $20 million in taxes recently began at the Superior Court, reports The San Francisco Chronicle.

Tax partner Jeff Vesely, who represents the archdiocese, told the judge that taxing the church in this case is "unlawful and unprecedented," and argued that the tax imposition violated the archdiocese’s constitutional rights.
