San Diego − Pillsbury today announced that Marcus Wu has joined the firm as a partner in the Executive Compensation & Benefits practice in San Diego. An accomplished lawyer, Wu has extensive experience in designing and implementing a broad spectrum of retirement plans and deferred-compensation plans.

With a deep understanding of the federal and state laws governing employee benefit plans, including the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and the Internal Revenue Code, Wu has considerable experience advising public and private employers on their retirement and health-and-welfare plans. He also counsels clients on defined-benefit plans, 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, 457 plans and non-qualified deferred-compensation plans.

Wu also advises employers on a wide variety of equity-compensation programs, including omnibus equity-incentive plans, ESPPs, performance-share plans, and others. In the area of welfare-benefit plans, he advises employers on establishing and administering health plans, section 125 cafeteria plans (flexible- and dependent-care arrangements), and severance plans.

Wu earned his J.D. from University of California’s Hastings College of the Law and joins Pillsbury from Hanson Bridgett. He is a member of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area, the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers and the California Public Employers Labor Relations Association. In addition he serves on the Judiciary Committee of the Bar Association of San Francisco. Wu has frequently spoken on employee benefits topics.
