In the wake of the current treaty proposal with Iran, global corporations are cautiously weighing their Iranian business options. Iranian oil minister Bijan Zanganeh has indicated that Iran has no limitations for U.S. companies. He has even singled out Western companies with which they want to do business.

Although these developments sound promising, Pillsbury Public Practices partner Christopher Wall warns against reading too much into Zanganeh's signals. "Iran has been advertising itself as open for business for some time, dangling market opportunities to lure U.S. and European companies in the hopes those companies will put pressure on their country's negotiators," said Wall. "Most western companies are smart enough not to be used in that way. Companies interested in getting into Iran have to stay very close to the almost daily developments.”
