After Time Warner Cable released an app that allows for watching dozens of cable channels to be watched on iPads, the issue sparked a discussion at the National Association of Broadcasters conference last week.
Pillsbury’s Communications lawyer John Hane said that the issue of negotiating fees for such apps between programmers and distributors would be tricky. “If you’re a device-maker, or if you’re a service provider and you want to build an Internet distribution platform, one of the problems you have is program access,” he said. “Internet distribution rights have been negotiated separately, if at all.”
