In a recently released special report on the top 100 verdicts of 2015, the National Law Journal ranked Pillsbury’s trial victories on behalf of insurance policyholders Lion Oil Company and Victaulic Co. as two of last year’s largest litigation wins. The $72 million jury verdict partners Geoffrey Greeves and Peter Gillon achieved for Lion Oil was ranked 25th on the NLJ list, while partners Joseph Jean and Colin Kemp’s $55 million triumph on behalf of Victaulic placed 31st.

The two decisions grade out as 2015's second and third largest breach of contract awards, respectively. They also represent the two biggest insurance recovery verdicts, according to NLJ’s research.

The Top 100 Verdicts report is compiled annually by NLJ affiliate VerdictSearch and is based on an expansive survey of court records, consultations with lawyers and a review of news reports. Rankings are determined by the gross award calculated by the jury -- they do not account for judicial reductions, offsets or appeals. In instances where awards were automatically trebled or doubled by statute, the increased amount determined the rank.
