Bloomberg reports that President Obama has proposed a consolidation of six agencies that deal with trade and commerce, to provide business with a single point of contact in the government. While the consolidation would lead to 1,000 to 2,000 lost government jobs, the ultimate aim is to save $3 billion during the next decade. However, many are critical of this proposal.

Christopher Wall, Pillsbury’s senior international trade partner and a former Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration said that the president’s proposal is "a distraction and purely political."

"The likelihood of this happening, bottom line, I think is virtually zero," he said.
