Palo Alto, CA— Pillsbury today announced that Alan B. Kalin has joined the firm’s Corporate & Securities-Technology practice in the Silicon Valley office. Kalin, who has spent more than 35 years as a corporate lawyer in this region, joins Pillsbury from the Palo Alto office of Bingham McCutchen, where he has been a partner since 1999.

“Alan is a highly regarded attorney in Silicon Valley with many excellent longstanding client relationships,” said Pillsbury partner James Rishwain, Jr. “His extensive connections with local companies and his experience in mergers and acquisitions fit well with Pillsbury’s platform and strategic focus on technology and emerging growth.”

Kalin represents emerging growth companies, entrepreneurs, investors and public companies in Silicon Valley, advising on M&A, securities offerings, venture capital financings, new business formation, strategic technology transactions, and general corporate matters. His transactional work includes guiding long-time client NetLogic Microsystems in its 2011 $3.7 billion acquisition by Broadcom. Last year Kalin led underwritten follow-on public offerings for semiconductor company MoSys Inc. (6.5 million common shares) and business phone provider 8x8 Inc. (14,375,000 common shares).

“The technology practice Alan has established over his decades in Silicon Valley is both substantial and mature, having grown along with a number of his clients. This is the approach we take as well, so Alan is an excellent complement to our practice,” said Stan Pierson, leader of Pillsbury’s Corporate & Securities-Technology practice. “The fact that Alan also represents semiconductor companies is a nice addition, as Pillsbury has had, and continues to have, a very strong practice with companies in this industry.”

“I have known a number of the Silicon Valley office corporate lawyers at Pillsbury for many years and have great respect for their abilities and Pillsbury’s technology client platform,” Kalin said. “I am excited to join the Silicon Valley office, where the breadth and depth of resources and differentiating practices that Pillsbury has available here will be a big plus with the companies I serve in this region.”

Kalin received his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1978, and his B.S. from the University of Illinois in 1974. Before becoming a lawyer, Alan was a licensed CPA in Illinois.
