PILLSBURY BRINGS PROMINENT SECURITIES LITIGATOR TO SAN FRANCISCO OFFICE Sarah Good Enhances Pillsbury's Strong Litigation Practice

May 11, 2012
New York—Pillsbury today announced that Sarah Good, a well-known securities and consumer class action litigator in San Francisco, has joined the firm's Litigation practice. Good was previously Chair of the Litigation Department at San Francisco's Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin, which combined with Arnold & Porter on January 1, and before that was a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

"The Bay Area has long been a key focus for our clients and our firm. Sarah brings just the right kind of energy, enthusiasm and experience to our San Francisco office," said Pillsbury Firm Chair Jim Rishwain. "She distinguishes herself in providing the very finest service to clients, and she has also held significant leadership roles throughout her career. Sarah has shown an outstanding commitment to her community with her many pro bono and charitable activities."

Good focuses on securities and consumer class action litigation, internal investigations and risk management. She has provided pre-dispute counseling to her clients as well as litigation services in jury and bench trials, arbitrations and mediations. She has handled disputes arising from acquisitions, employment, real estate, royalties, product distribution, intellectual property, manufacturing and stock options. She has briefed and argued numerous motions and appeals and has negotiated more than a hundred settlements.

Good has represented clients in more than 50 securities class actions, derivative actions and investigations and proceedings conducted by the Department of Labor, Department of Justice, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Securities and Exchange Commission. Similarly, she has defended clients in more than 20 consumer fraud class actions, state Attorney General's investigations and actions under California's Unfair Business Practice Act. She has also advised hundreds of private, pre-IPO and public companies on risk management and insurance.

"We couldn't be happier to welcome Sarah Good to the firm," said Kirke Hasson, San Francisco-based co-leader of Pillsbury's firmwide Litigation practice. "Sarah brings the ideal mix of legal skills and personal qualities that we seek for our team here. She has worked on a very broad range of matters and has demonstrated success throughout. She is also well regarded in the legal community and has established deep trust with her clients – some of whom are facing their most challenging and complex claims."

"I couldn't agree more whole-heartedly," said Kenneth Taber, co-leader of Pillsbury's firm-wide Litigation practice in New York. "Sarah is a natural fit for Pillsbury as she has exhibited leadership, talent and professionalism throughout her career, to the benefit of her clients, her firms and her community."

Good began her legal career at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in 1990 and became a partner in 1999. She joined Howard Rice as a partner in 2001 and served as Chair of the firm's Litigation Department and as a member of the firm's Securities & Financial Services practice group.

Good earned her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1990 and her undergraduate degree from Princeton in 1987. She is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia. She is also admitted to all state and federal courts in California, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Among her community activities, Good has served on the Board of Directors of the AIDS Legal Referral Panel and belongs to Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom. Her notable pro bono representations include a case involving inmates at California's Pelican Bay Prison. This class action suit challenged conditions at the prison and ultimately won sweeping relief in a landmark ruling, Madrid v. Gomez, 889 F. Supp. 1146 (N.D. Cal. 1995).

"I look forward to working with a firm with the reputation that Pillsbury enjoys here – both for its legal talent and also for the good work Pillsbury does in the Bay Area community," Good said. "I already know many of my future colleagues at Pillsbury, and they are some of the finest practitioners in the business. Their talent will be a great resource for assisting my clients in their many varied matters."

Pillsbury's team of approximately 200 firmwide litigators handles complex commercial cases, matters of substantial public interest, sophisticated technology disputes, and a wide variety of other assignments. The firm offers the depth and breadth necessary to assist clients across industries in avoiding disputes and, when necessary, resolving disputes favorably and efficiently by trial or settlement. Pillsbury's practice often involves large-scale, complex litigation with multiple parties, in multiple proceedings and forums.
