U.S. District Judge Alexander Williams Jr. granted the request for a temporary preliminary injunction against the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act, or STOCK Act, made by a group of federal employees challenging the law. The judge stayed the case until Sept. 24, noting that Congress has indicated that it may limit some disclosure provisions later this month, possibly making the injunction moot.

“We now have time to know what Congress is doing with the statute before we know what the court does with the issues,” said plaintiffs' attorney Jack McKay.

McKay, a litigation partner in Pillsbury’s Washington, D.C., office, said that he and his clients were encouraged by how the judge had received their arguments. “We hope that augurs well for the ultimate determination.”
