The New York City Bar Association held its 22nd annual Henry L. Stimson Medal Awards on June 3rd, recognizing four assistant U.S. attorneys from the Southern and Eastern Districts for their outstanding public service.

The medal is awarded in honor of Henry L. Stimson, who served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1906 to 1909, following his appointment by President Theodore Roosevelt, and as President of the New York City Bar Association from 1937 to 1939. He served as Secretary of State to President Hoover and Secretary of War to Presidents Taft, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Truman. Stimson was also a founding partner of Winthrop Stimson, a predecessor to today’s Pillsbury.

Pillsbury litigation partner Mark Hellerer, who served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York before joining the firm, serves as Chair of the New York Bar's Stimson Medal Committee.

This year’s medal recipients are Gail Matthews (Civil Division) and Daniel Silver (Criminal Division) of the Eastern District, along with Benjamin H. Torrance (Civil Division) and Guruanjan Singh Sahni (Criminal Division) of the Southern District.

Pillsbury co-sponsors the event with the New York City Bar Association.
