As the phone-hacking scandal surrounding News Corp.'s News of the World publication continues to unfold, questions arise whether the British fiasco will catch the eye of the Federal Communications Commission in the US, reports The Los Angeles Times.
"If News Corp. or one of the Murdochs or other senior officers or directors got a criminal conviction, maybe, on a really good day, with wind at your back, calm seas and a nuclear turbine, you might get something going," said Pillsbury Communications lawyer John Hane. "But I really doubt it."
The chances of the Federal Communications Commission looking into News Corp.'s US licenses are pretty low, reports AdWeek, adding that this could change if it is found that Rupert Murdoch or his executives were found to have had knowledge of illegal activities.
"The higher up it goes, the more of a problem it is," added Pillsbury partner Scott Flick, also a member of the firm's Communications team in Washington, DC.
