Pat Doody, a recognized authority on post-grant proceedings, patent infringement and Hatch-Waxman litigation, leads Pillsbury’s U.S. Patent and Trademark Office litigation team.

An Intellectual Property partner and member of Pillsbury’s Medical Devices and Life Sciences teams, Pat is a former patent examiner who provides strategic counsel to pharmaceutical, medical device, chemical and biotech clients. He prepares opinions, handles patent challenges before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and has successfully litigated numerous patent infringement cases. He also conducts patent portfolio due diligence investigations and assists clients in bringing new products to market. 

Representative Experience

  • Defended Rigetti Computing against two inter partes reviews (IPRs) brought against one of its foundational patents by IBM, with the PTAB determining not to institute the IPR proceeding based upon the Patent Owner Statement, which highlighted fundamental inconsistencies in IBM’s assertions.
  • Led Menicon Co. Ltd.’s defense in a Massachusetts district court patent infringement case, obtaining a favorable resolution following a Markman hearing.
  • Serving as lead counsel to Textron, obtained dismissal with prejudice from a Florida district court in a patent infringement case and achieved a favorable settlement for our client.
