Raymond L. Sweigart

Raymond L. Sweigart
Partner

Mr. Sweigart's primary area of practice is dispute resolution and trial work, with a particular emphasis on jury trials as well as domestic and international arbitration and mediation. He spent several years as Managing Partner of our Washington, DC office and leader of our Intellectual Property Practice Group and as co-leader of the firm's semiconductor team. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement and validity, trade secret misappropriation, copyright and trademark disputes, as well as in other complex matters, including arbitration, mediation, IP audits and risk management, IP property portfolio development and management, licensing and strategic planning, and general business matters, such as anti-bribery and anti-money laundering compliance.

Notably he successfully defended a major manufacturer against a $110 million claim for willful patent infringement. The National Law Journal recognized this victory as one of the "top ten" most significant defense jury verdicts. In addition to IP litigation, he has focused on a broad spectrum of complex civil litigation, including asbestos litigation defense, admiralty claims litigation and arbitration, creditors' rights, bankruptcy, foreclosure, construction, environmental and general commercial claims work.  He formerly was an Assistant United States Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, which he joined after a clerkship with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
