Mr. Herr is a partner in the San Francisco office of Pillsbury. He has represented an array of developers, owners, managers and lenders in commercial and residential real estate development, acquisition, operation, leasing, sale and loan transactions. Mr. Herr’s client list includes Shorenstein Company LLC, International Business Machines Corporation, Inc., Stein Kingsley Stein, the San Francisco Giants and Chivas USA. Mr. Herr also acts as the leader of the firm’s Shorenstein client team.

Sample transactions handled by Mr. Herr include the acquisition and subsequent disposition of the two million square foot 555 California office block in San Francisco, California and the related primary and secondary financings; the formation of real estate investment partnerships raising $450 million in capital since 1993; and over $5 billion of class A office building acquisition or disposition transactions between 1994 to 2004. As lead attorney in the acquisition of the San Francisco Giants by the current ownership group of the Major League Baseball franchise, Mr. Herr handled the financing and other business transactional aspects of the team’s $350 million ballpark located at China Basin in San Francisco, completed in 2000.

For the years 2004 through 2008, Mr. Herr was ranked in Chambers USA as one of the "Leaders in their Field" in Real Estate for the State of California. He has also been named as one of the "Best Lawyers in America" for the past 20 years in real estate and in the newly added 2007 category, land use and zoning law.

Mr. Herr also has an active land use/governmental approvals practice, representing developers of major office, retail, residential and hotel projects in successfully negotiating the often rocky shoals of California land use law and practice. Examples of major land use matters handled by Mr. Herr are the $300 million mixed use (office, hotel, retail) Embarcadero Center West project; the 250,000 square foot 475 Brannan Street office project; the 300,000 square foot 350 Rhode Island office project; the 282 unit residential Lombard Plaza project; and a mixed use luxury hotel/residential condominium project for Carpenter/Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc., comprising about 300 hotel rooms on the lower 20 floors and 102 luxury condominiums on the upper 20 floors of a 40 story highrise structure at 3rd and Mission Streets; the 24 story, 250 unit condominium project at 375 Fremont Street now in process of entitlement, all in San Francisco; and the entitlement in 2000 of 2.2 million square feet of office space and 200 residential units at Oakland City center, in Oakland, California, and subsequent development in Oakland of the first phase of that project.
