Senior Counsel

Mr. Machida practices in Pillsbury’s Corporate & Securities section. He is based in our Tokyo office and is a Japanese Bengoshi. He provides international legal advice on hedge funds, corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, real estate, tax, insurance, antitrust, and labor matters. He handles negotiations for trade agreements, as well as business contracts.

Prior to joining Pillsbury, Mr. Machida served as both the Chief Legal Officer and Financial and Security Administrative Inspector at the Kinki Finance Bureau of the Ministry of Finance in Japan. As Chief Legal Officer, he advised various financial-related controversies and issues regarding banking law, trust law, securities exchange law, mortgage securities law and antitrust law. As Financial and Security Administrative Inspector, he monitored the compliance and internal auditing systems of banks, limited service banks, stock brokerage firms, investment management companies, and consumer financing companies. He also inspected these financial institutions’ risk-management practices, including portfolio analysis and risk exposure based on each institution’s assets and investments.
