Insurance Issues in the Restaurant Industry
Restaurants are always susceptible to a variety of losses and liabilities, including those dreamed up by creative plaintiffs' lawyers. Consequently, it is important to understand what types of insurance coverage are available to restaurants, the levels of coverage your business should maintain, key provisions to look for when selecting a policy, and the best (and worst) carriers to deal with when a claim arises. It is equally important to have an understanding of the types of suits frequently filed against restaurants for which coverage may exist, including lawsuits alleging improper tip sharing, collection of zip code or other personal information, violations of privacy laws, and abuses of meal and rest break regulations and other wage and hour laws. This session will walk participants through the risk management concerns relating to insurance placement, the mechanics of pursuing coverage for a claim, and strategies for optimizing coverage in class actions and other claims.
