The Fourth Edition of the Patent Litigation Strategies Handbook has been released by Bloomberg BNA, with Pillsbury Intellectual Property partner William Atkins serving as co-editor-in-chief and senior IP counsel Gary Hoffman as editor-in-chief emeritus.
The 2,000-plus page, 35-chapter tome offers in-depth analysis of each phase of patent litigation, from pre-litigation issues and initial client counseling through the filing of an appeal. The handbook advises parties on both sides of patent disputes – patent owners and challengers – by explaining emerging trends and revealing proven legal tactics the authors have personally employed. Each chapter was authored by leading patent litigators from firms throughout the United States, including chapters by Pillsbury's Christopher Dorsey and Michael Heins.
“The constant evolution of technology has led to a similarly rapid change in patent law,” Atkins said. “To update the Patent Litigation Strategies Handbook, we identified the most recent changes in patent litigation and, through significant research, we detail and explain the very best methods for addressing them. From PTAB proceedings to the unique features of biosimilar patents, we describe the intricacies with advice that we’ve seen work first hand.”
This edition of the handbook includes content that deals with the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (BCPIA), biotechnology patents and pharmaceutical-industry litigation, in addition to recommendations for practicing before the PTAB and an analysis of changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
