The second edition of Bloomberg BNA’s PTAB Handbook, the only all-inclusive guide designed to help IP practitioners navigate the complex and ever-changing rules and procedures that govern the Patent Trial and Appeal Board hearing process, has just been released. Pillsbury partner William Atkins again served as Editor-in-Chief of the publication and spearheaded the extensive research it contains.

Created as a streamlined alternative to slower, more expensive IP litigation in federal court, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board has overseen more than 5,200 petitions and rendered thousands of decisions since its inception. Atkins’ book carefully reviews and analyzes these decisions from the PTAB and uses them to carefully describe how and why the Board applies its rules and makes its decisions.

In this second edition of the handbook, the newly promulgated PTAB rules and their application are covered, as are the limitations the Federal Circuit puts on reviewing the PTAB’s final written decisions. It also considers many critical decisions rendered by the PTAB since the handbook’s first edition was published.
