Steve Huttler is Pillsbury's Senior Partner as well as a practicing business lawyer.
Mr. Huttler has over four decades of experience as a business lawyer advising on complex business transactions, representation of overseas investors, and handling of business disputes and governmental challenges. He has extensive experience dealing with distressed situations, and has deep real estate experience. Most recently, he has served as the chief attorney for a number of Swiss banks in connection with their dealings with the United States Department of Justice involving allegations of tax crimes. He has particular experience leading teams of attorneys and clients on major projects, whether they involve business planning, a cross-border transaction, or defense of a claim or dispute.
As a result of his combined legal and business skills, Steve has become a trusted strategic adviser to local, national and international clients.
As Senior Partner, he is responsible for the expansion of the firm’s global capabilities. He manages the firm’s relationships with foreign law firms and attorneys, has launched a number of the firm’s overseas offices including in the Middle East and Asia, and heads the firm’s India practice.
Prior to Shaw Pittman's merger with Pillsbury Winthrop in 2005, Mr. Huttler was Shaw Pittman's Managing Partner. In that capacity, he architected the merger with Pillsbury Winthrop thus helping to create one of the leading law firms in the nation. Following the merger, he served as Executive Vice Chair of the combined firm until his appointment to the Firm Senior Partner position.
In addition to his law firm leadership experience, Mr. Huttler served for two years as the Executive Chairman of the Board of a major regional developer of resort communities and neighborhood shopping centers. He assumed this position following the untimely death of the company's principal shareholder, and led the company through a "perfect storm" of challenges to its successful position today.
Mr. Huttler additionally has substantial experience serving on the Boards of Directors of important for-profit and not-for-profit enterprises. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. He has served as Treasurer and long-time member of the Board of the Washington National Opera. Finally, he serves as pro-bono counsel to several national arts organizations and foundations.
