NEW YORK—Pillsbury has again been recognized as one of the 40 most inclusive law firms in the 2016 edition of the American Lawyer’s annual Diversity Scorecard. Of the 220 law firms included in this year’s survey, the firm tied for No. 39 based on overall diversity score. Pillsbury also placed No. 24 for diversity within its partnership.
In both instances, Pillsbury significantly outperformed national averages, with 17.4 percent of its U.S. lawyers (average: 15.02 percent) and 11.5 percent of U.S. partners (average: 8.22 percent) self-identifying as minorities.
The American Lawyer’s Diversity Scorecard rankings reflect the average number of U.S.-based full-time-equivalent minority attorneys at Am Law 200 and National Law Journal 250 law firms. To stress the importance of hiring and promoting minority attorneys to partnership, scores are determined by combining the total percentage of minority lawyers at each firm with the percentage of minorities among each firms’ partners.
“Pillsbury takes great pride in the various experiences and perspectives of our people,” said Executive Partner for Diversity and Inclusion Brian Wong. “Though our work is far from finished, we firmly believe that everyone — our lawyers and staff, our clients, society in general — is better served when their differences are respected and embraced. It is a responsibility we do not take lightly.”
Pillsbury Chair Jim Rishwain added: “A commitment to recruiting, retaining and promoting the very best lawyers, regardless of their backgrounds, is one of the central tenets of our firm. This diversity ranking is a reflection of our ongoing efforts and continued progress toward that goal.”
