On March 1, 2017, the Securities and Exchange Commission adopted final rules that will require reporting companies to include hyperlinks to exhibits listed in the exhibit index of most registration statements, reports and other applicable filings. All exhibits, including those incorporated by reference, must have hyperlinks, with the exception of exhibits filed in XBRL. Notably, reports on Form 6-K are exempt from this rule, among other limited exceptions. The rule goes into effect for most companies on September 1, 2017, but for smaller reporting companies and non-accelerated filers, the effective date is September 1, 2018. The SEC has encouraged early compliance.
