Silicon Valley Corporate partner and Technology industry team leader Jorge del Calvo was profiled by Daily Journal in its September 20 edition. Recognized by the California publication as one of the state's top 100 lawyers, del Calvo spoke with Daily Journal about a few of his most recent cases.

The profile covers the acquisitions of Applied Micro Circuits Corp. and Inphi Corp., both of which del Calvo counseled in deals worth $770 million and $90 million, respectively. The article also discusses his work advising Komprise Inc. in Series B Preferred Stock financing that raised $12 million.

“Whether it’s a public company or a private company, we help clients build value, and that’s satisfying,” del Calvo told Daily Journal. “When we close these transactions, our clients feel a great sense of relief and accomplishment, and it’s good to be able to contribute to that.”

Additionally, del Calvo’s recent work on behalf of Invensense Inc. was detailed in the article. Along with fellow partner Allison Leopold Tilley, del Calvo advised the semiconductor supplier in its $1.3-billion sale to TDK Corp. The deal was closed in May after receiving all necessary regulatory approvals in both the U.S. and Japan.

“One of the challenges with that transaction was it was one of the first semiconductor companies to make it through CFIUS after the election of Donald Trump,” he said. “I believe we, together with counsel for TDK Corp., made a compelling case that there was no risk involved to American security as a result of the transaction.”

At Pillsbury, del Calvo handles business and legal issues resulting from rapid growth and disruptive technologies. He counsels technology companies in a variety of corporate transactions, including public offerings, private placements and joint ventures. He frequently represents investment banks in equity, debt and other transactions, and he advises venture and private equity funds in their formation and investments. Del Calvo also has considerable experience as counsel in merger and acquisition transactions and has represented public and private companies as both sellers and acquirers.
