Two FireEye products have gained certification under the SAFETY Act, a first for a pure cybersecurity product. The SAFETY Act is a post-9/11 law that shields users and makers of certified anti-terror products from liability. FireEye can now market the unique certification, said Public Policy partner Brian E. Finch, the attorney who spearheaded the certification process. "You can read that as a marketing tool--that's the purpose of the SAFETY Act: To authorize liability protections, so more companies will go out and use and purchase products that have been vetted by DHS.” He notes that from a shareholder and fiduciary perspective, companies that purchase the FireEye products can point to the fact that they bought a product vetted by the Department of Homeland Security. As mentioned in Politico and Law360.
