In celebration of his more than 25 years of distinguished public service, The Honorable Rolando T. Acosta will be honored by the Fund for Modern Courts at their annual Cyrus R. Vance Tribute Breakfast. Acosta, former Presiding Justice of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department, now serves as a Litigation partner at Pillsbury.

The Cyrus R. Vance Tribute recognizes a notable public figure who exemplifies Vance’s legacy and who has made the New York State Court system more efficient, fair and accessible to all.

During the event, Judge Acosta will present a speech entitled “A House Again Divided: Our Democracy and Courts in Peril” which will explore the relevance of a strong and independent judiciary to a functioning democracy and current frontal attacks to the New York Judiciary.

The event will take place at The Yale Club of New York City on May 11, 2023 at 8:30 a.m.

Widely recognized as one of the foremost jurists in the United States, Justice Rolando Acosta has earned a reputation for his uncompromising adherence to the rule of law. Justice Acosta has decades of experience as a trial and appellate judge on the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He was named Judge of the Year by the National Hispanic Bar Association in 2004, received the Jewish Lawyers Guild’s Golda Meir Memorial Award in 2013 and was awarded the John Carro Award for Judicial Excellence while serving as President of the Latino Judges Association.
