In a recent interview with the New York Law Journal, Litigation partner and former Presiding Justice of the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division, First Department Rolando Acosta discussed a conversation he had with New York Chief Judge Rowan Wilson about taking on certified questions to increase the court’s case volume.

“It is a wonderful thing, that the chief judge wants more issues to come up to the Court of Appeals and decide the conflicts that exists among some departments of the Appellate Division,” Justice Acosta stated.

“That’s good for the bar, that’s good for the law and it’s good for everyone. For the Court of Appeals to be deciding complex, legal matters with complex legal policy choices, is a wonderful thing. I think that’s our role as a judiciary, and I welcome a chief judge that wants to do precisely that,” he concluded.
