Pillsbury continues the expansion of its real estate practice with the hire of veteran real estate lawyer Alan J. Pomerantz, who joins as senior counsel in the Firm's New York and San Francisco offices. Like his fellow real estate colleagues, partners Marc Shapiro and Jill Block, counsel Susan Saslow, senior associates Jason Schlessel and Christine Roch, who all came to Pillsbury in February 2011, Pomerantz joins from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.

Shapiro and Block led Orrick's New York real estate group, representing private equity investors, property owners, operators and lenders in complex purchase, sale and financing transactions. Their work extends to office, shopping center, industrial, multifamily and hospitality projects, including advising on more than 300 hospitality projects. In the past 25 years, they have closed in excess of 1,000 commercial real estate transactions in 50 states, with an aggregate deal volume of more than $15 billion.

A graduate of New York University, Shapiro holds a JD from Syracuse University College of Law, where he was an Editor of the Syracuse Law Review. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. Block graduated from Clark University and received her JD from Brooklyn Law School, where she was an Editor of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law. She is admitted in New York. Both Shapiro and Block are members of the Real Estate Board of New York, the Mortgage Bankers Association and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Prior to joining Orrick, Pomerantz was Co-CEO, President and member of the Investment Committee of ERE Advisors LLC, the general partner of Evercore Real Estate Partners LP. He also chaired the Global Property and Finance practice group at Weil Gotshal, where he was a member of its Firmwide management committee. Pomerantz holds a post-graduate degree from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands, and a JD from the New York University School of Law.
