San Francisco-based Concept Art House, an art and creative service provider that produces graphics for game developers, announced an investment and cooperative agreement with Chinese software developer Talkweb Information System to create a new joint venture called Spellgun. Headed by Concept Art House chief executive James Zhang, the startup aims to make it easier for Western game companies to enter China.

The two companies will collaborate on developing and publishing games to be sold on Chinese application markets. In an interview with GamesBeat, Zhang said developers will be able to strike deals with the U.S.-based Spellgun, which will offer legal protections for the developers. After that, Spellgun will partner with Talkweb, which published games such as Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies 2 in the Chinese market.

The Pillsbury team advising Concept Art House included corporate and securities partners Riaz Karamali (Silicon Valley) and Thomas Shoesmith (Silicon Valley and Shanghai); finance partner Thomas Klaus Gump (San Francisco); and corporate and securities associate Julian Zou (Silicon Valley and Shanghai).
