Washington, DC—This week, many of the United States’ top employers will join with thought leaders across industry sectors to discuss solutions for developing the next generation of talent in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. The Global STEM Talent Summit (GSTS) will take place April 27-28 at The National Press Club in Washington, DC and is hosted by STEMconnector, a leading organization that provides resources and leadership to support smart STEM investments, with a focus on diversity and the inclusion of women in STEM fields.

This year, the theme of GSTS is the advancement of short-term STEM talent development strategies and their impact on business performance. The event serves as a platform for networking, discussing best practices for talent development and mobilizing participants to address the STEM talent gap. STEMconnector also will provide reports on the progress of a three-year strategic roadmap that aims to drive sustainable impact and deliver tangible solutions in this area.

“As disruption is evident, business leaders are shifting their focus to talent investment, engagement in STEM initiatives and tackling the latest in new technology and skills required for jobs,” said Edie Fraser, CEO of STEMconnector. “As this GSTS initiative continues, leaders are intent on identifying and proselytizing investments in education proven to strengthen a sustainable, long-term talent pool.”

The event’s keynote speakers include:

  • Jan Geldmacher, President of Sprint Business, who will present in conjunction with “Pepper,” the intelligent humanoid robot,
  • Jay Bavisi, CEO of EC-Council, who will address why companies must upskill STEM talent for the projected 8.1 million global cyber jobs (two million in the U.S. alone), and
  • Surya Kant, President of North America, U.K. and Europe Operations for Tata Consultancy Services, who challenged last year’s summit participants to support one million technology job opportunities for underserved populations and who will speak this year about the need for prioritizing digital fluency in talent development efforts.

The Summit’s media moderators include Megan Murphy, Editor of Bloomberg Businessweek, and Angela Greiling Keane, Deputy Technology Editor at Politico.

GSTS attendees will comprise more than 200 delegates from STEMconnector’s 50 strategic partner companies, which represent more than six million employees and over $2 trillion in combined revenue. In addition to Pillsbury, these strategic partners include AT&T, BP, Burning Glass, Carnival Corporation, Cigna, Credit Suisse, Deloitte, Discovery Education, FedEx, Gulfstream, Honeywell, Gallup, GM, Indeed, Johnson & Johnson Innovation, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Monsanto, Monster, Sodexo, Sprint, S&P Global and Walmart, among many others.
