LONDON—Two transactions on which Pillsbury advised in 2015 — the Lima Metro Line 2 project in Peru and the Petro Rabigh 2 project in Saudi Arabia —were recognized as deals of the year by Project Finance International. PFI announced the winners of its annual awards at a special ceremony in London on February 3.

PFI named The Petro Rabigh 2 project its Middle East and Africa Petrochemical Deal of the Year. Pillsbury represented Sumitomo Chemical on all aspects of the project documentation, technology licensing and construction contracts for the US$5.2 billion dollar refining and petrochemicals complex located in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia. The Pillsbury team advising Sumitomo on the matter was led by partner Anthony Raven and retired partner Bill Huss, with extensive support from counsel Olivia Matsushita.

Pillsbury partner Peter Baumgaertner and senior counsel Dan Brown — as well as partners Fernando Rodriguez Marin and Nick Sarad — have also had a central role in PFI’s Americas P3 Deal of the Year: the future Line 2 of the Lima metro. Baumgaertner and Brown are actively representing Deustche Bank Trust Services as agent to the lenders in the project’s bank financing while Rodriguez Marin and Sarad, prior to joining the firm, worked on a team representing the concessionaire, a consortium of international companies, in connection with the project bond and bank financing. Peru's very first underground metro with a total cost of US$5.3 billion, the infrastructure project is one of the most ambitious ever to be undertaken in Latin America.
