The American Civil Liberties Union and Pillsbury are representing two editors at Antiwar.com, Justin Raimondo, and Eric Garris, in a lawsuit against the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The suit claims that the FBI failed to comply with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for details about its “threat assessment” investigation of the online magazine. The editors are asking the FBI to hand over any documents it has.

“Federal law has important protections against creating files about how people exercise their free speech rights, even when that speech criticizes the government,” said Marley Degner, a senior associate in Pillsbury’s San Francisco litigation practice, in a press release by the ACLU. “A news organization under government surveillance is not truly free to express itself.”

The Pillsbury pro bono team representing both editors includes Degner as well as litigation partner Thomas Loran and associate Laura Hurtado.
